Family Law Judgments
From final orders to final payment
Family law cases, such as divorce, legal separation, contempt, and modification, can all lead to judgments being entered. Unfortunately, those judgments are not always paid. Fortunately, we have many solutions available for this problem.
Family law judgments often hurt more. They are for unpaid amounts you need. They are often more frustrating because the person that owes you the money typically has been found to have the ability to pay, but is refusing to do so. It is made worse because that person also knows how important payment probably is to you. We understand that pain because we see it every day.

Types of family law judgments enforced
We can enforce all judgments from a case except unpaid child support, which the State enforces. Unpaid spousal support, contempt orders, attorney fees awarded at any stage, and property equalization are the most common types of judgments. Property equalization is just a fancy way of saying that you were awarded money and the other side received some property. This is common for the marital home's equity. Contempt orders often include a small penalty and attorney fee awards. Divorce decrees can include money judgments for many reasons at the same time. Even temporary orders that happen between the start of the process and the end can be collected.
How can we collect?
After the family court enters its ruling or rulings, those judgments are enforced the same as other judgments. The other side may appeal and they may make a payment. However, neither is typical. The court will not enforce the judgment, and, like other judgments, it must be collected through normal judgment enforcement means. Typically, this will be wage or bank garnishments. The good news is that you probably already have all the information we need to help you collect. If not, we can also help you find where the money might be.
